7 Easy To Use Dog Training Tips

Be Positive
– A lot of dog trainers recommend the use of negative reinforcement when training your dog or puppy. Others recommend positive reinforcement. Both techniques work extremely well it all depends on the breed of dog you are attempting to train. When you are using positive reinforcement you train your dog by offering your dog treats as well as praise whenever he does well.

Be Firm Yet Friendly – When using commands such as heel or come, it is best to use a joyful, friendly voice. On the flipside when you give commands such as sit, down, and stay you will want to use a stern firm voice.

Starting Younger Is Better – The best time to begin your training if possible is at six to eight weeks. Depending on the breed of dog that you have you may be able to start earlier. Always keep in mind that it is never to late to teach an old dog a new trick or two.
NEVER Rub His Nose In It – In the old days dog trainers use to teach dog owners to rub their dogs nose in their accident, and swat the dog with a rolled up newspaper. Since the days of old industry experts have found that this isn’t the best way to house break your dog. The only thing this type of training will do is make your dog afraid of you.
Patients Is The Key -- Although it can be rather frustrating when you first begin training your dog, you must remain patient. If you feel that you are beginning to lose your cool you need to end your training session.

Keep Your Training Sessions Short – Keep your training sessions to approximately fifteen minutes when training your dog to learn simple commands. Stay focused on a single command during your session and make sure to end each session on a positive note. If your dog has successfully completed your commands several times in a row remember to praise your dog. After each dog training session spend a little time playing with your dog. This will associate time spent with you as being a positive time and your dog will begin to look forward to your training sessions.

Zero Distractions – If you are training your dog inside your home or your apartment make sure that you turn all phones, television, and music off. You want to avoid any type of distraction that may take your dogs focus off of you. Although many people like to train their dog outdoors and this is fine. I personally recommend indoors or some type of controlled environment. If you have other pets such as other dogs or cats, make sure that you put them away during your training sessions.
